March 2026 Reading Wrap-up + Writing Update

March… What did I do again? Oh, I went to South Carolina for a family thing, and it turned into a late-night adventure, or nightmare, depending on how you look at it. See, what had happened was – I put in the address to the hotel in my GPS, but the gods at Apple thought I meant ‘road’, instead of ‘parkway,’ and long story short, we ended up in North Carolina. My husband was looking around and he was like, ‘there are no mountains in South Carolina. Where are we?’ And then, when we passed a sign that said “University of North Carolina,” I was like “oh, no.” We went about two hours out of the way. It sucked balls, but we laughed about it later.
In other news, the whole fam went to see “Hail Mary” in the theater. It was so good. So good. I cried twice and I never cry at movies. So well done. I actually won that book from a Goodreads giveaway. I need to read it. Hmm.
Now this didn’t technically happen in March, but I did attempt baking that burnt sugar cake again. One side of it collapsed, but it came out much better. I think we (my daughter and I) burned the sugar a little too much though, because part of the frosting required some burned sugar, and that frosting came out a little odd and bitter. But still kinda good? I don’t know. It was weird. But the fam still ate that shit, so success! What do you guys think? Yummy?

Writing-wise, I started and completed another feature-length micro-drama script. This time, a horror story. That’s a new genre for me, but I did my thing. Also, I hopped on Query Tracker and queried 7 literary agents to represent me and my book, the vampire coming-of-age story! So exciting! I’m filled with good vibes over here. And maybe all authors feel this way, but I really believe I’ve got a good book on my hands and somebody somewhere will respond to it. I’ve just got to find them. Keeping my hopes up!
Regarding Secrets We Keep 2, I’ve redrafted my outline and will start writing the screenplay later this week.
As always, my novel, The Secrets We Keep, is available on Wattpad. If you’re interested in reading it, it’s available here. It has cheating themes and plenty of spice for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!
What else in March? Oh, yeah, I read ten books, three of which I DNF’d, and three of which I rated 4 stars or above. Let’s get into it!

Quicksilver (Book 1 of The Fae & Alchemy Series) by Callie Hart
I listened to this on Libby. This was a good time. A little comedy sprinkled in there too. Not laugh-out-loud funny, but… And I liked the little surprise ending about one of the characters (which I won’t spoil here).
Excellent spice. Kingfisher was sexy. When he destroyed those paintings, I was like ‘oh, boy, he falling hard.’ And when Kingfisher had the FMC’s friend get rubbed raw of her scent, I already knew what that was about.
Some phrases have been used a lot: ‘bundle of nerves,’ ‘my slick folds,’ ‘good girl.’ But whatever. Best book ever? No. But fun? Yes!
4/5 stars

The Rebel King (Book 2 of All the King’s Men series) by Kennedy Ryan
I listened to this on Audible. I want to preface this by saying I read Book 1 of this series, The Kingmaker, but it wasn’t my favorite. This one, however, started out with a bang. The abduction. Intense and well done. I wish the villain was more personal, rather than some random criminal who made it personal because the MMC killed his brother. But whatever.
It was tedius how annoying the Lennix could be with her constant ‘kill the patriarchy’ thing, especially when her billionaire man wanted to have security around her, and she balked. Girl, you’d better let him do his thing to protect you. All the fights they had were started by her. She’s lucky this man loved her. They had sex a lot. Like everyday.
The MMC had his flaws, like wearing his heart on his sleeve. Telling the terrorist he’d give him whatever he wanted if he gave her back / let her go. I knew the relationship would blow up when people found out about them. Her firing someone early on for having a relationship with one of her candidates came back to bite her on the ass. All he had to do was marry her, and all would be well.
When they finally hunted down the assassin and killed him, it was barely an inconvenience.
Overall, I liked this one better than the first. Even with its flaws. She was stubborn. But came around when his dad said he wouldn’t build on her people’s land anymore. Progress.
4.25/5 stars

Queen Move (Book 3 of All the King’s Men) by Kennedy Ryan
I felt that the FMC, Kimba, in this book (Lennix’s best friend) wasn’t the same as the one in the first two books. This was a little boring at times. They were torn apart because of a family secret, which I didn’t see coming, but should have. The spice was quite nice and hot. I liked the MMC. He didn’t lie and didn’t play games. Neither did she. Overall, I liked it. Didn’t love it, but it’s still worth a read.
4/5 stars
Thanks for reading!
