Bestsellers I Read in May 2023

As you all know by now, this year I am definitely on a reading kick. I love reading and don’t know why I stopped for like years. Okay wait, I know why. Kids. It was all the kids. You really can use them as an excuse for anything and everything. *Sigh* So anyway, now that the kids are older and more independent everyday, let’s dive right in to my book review for the month of May!

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

This was yet again a Colleen Hoover month for me. I soooo enjoyed this book. It was unique in that it featured not only one but two deaf characters. I really enjoyed reading about their lives and how they see the world.

And I really enjoyed the desire, the forbidden love aspect, the wanting, the moth to a flame, the wanting to but knowing you shouldn’t, the feels, the conflict, the everything! Ms. Hoover just gave it to us, and I was here for it.

The character of Sydney, Ridge’s neighbor and newfound songwriter, is so well written. She’s strong and loyal. So is Ridge, her handsome neighbor who happens to be deaf. Really all the characters feel like living, breathing people. You want everyone in the book to get what they want and you become so invested in these characters. A definite must read. I would definitely read this one again. It was so so good, I couldn’t put it down.

And it even has a soundtrack, which is available to listen to on Spotify and iTunes. I’ve never heard of that done before, but since this book featured lyrics, I enjoyed that you could actually go and listen to the songs online if you like.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

I really identified with Tate. Falling in love with an emotionally unavailable man hit a little close to home for me. Both Tate and Miles were tortured in their own ways. It was such a tragic and relatable story. Very well done. Even had a surprise relationship tossed in there towards the end.

It kept me wondering what on earth happened in Miles’ past that he would continuously put Tate at arms length, when it was totally obvious he liked her.

And I was also wondering why the author spent so much time on Miles’ past relationship, but at the end, you get it.

This one featured a lot of sex scenes. Not 50 Shades of Grey sex, but a good amount. But still it was real and was a necessary part of the story. Plus it was hot, so there’s that. An excellent read.

Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover

This one had a slow start for me, but it came around and made me fall in love with the story. I like that it surprised me with Samson’s past. Didn’t see that coming. It was a cute love story. I really felt for the characters. Beyah was a strong character. Loved her.

After Beyah and Samson warmed up to each other, they were just so great together. Both characters had hard and tragic pasts. That’s what Coho does best. Another excellent read. Highly recommend.

Slammed by Colleen Hoover

Okay so I read “This Girl” before reading this one and if you’ve read “This Girl,” you’ve read “Slammed”. If I had read “Slammed” first, I probably would say you didn’t need to read “This Girl”. “Slammed” is just told from Layken’s perspective. It didn’t add much to the story. For hard core fans only.

In summary, so many good reads this past month. But if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Maybe Someday. What can I say? I’m a sucker for romance and this one brought all the feels.

Happy reading!
