Another month has passed and here we are for another book review. I love reading. I just do. It inspires me with my writing. Plus it’s just fun! Most of the time anyway. So let’s dive in… again:

Never Never Part 1 by Colleen Hoover & Tarryn Fisher
I know I said in a previous post I wouldn’t bother reading how it all began in this Never Never series, since the ending was so mediocre. But, it popped up on my hold list at the library and I thought, why not? It was a short read anyway.
And here’s my review: It’s sad. This story had an excellent, intriguing and promising start, but ultimately lead to a very bad and lazy ending. And sometimes in this book, it was hard to distinguish between the two main characters. I had to go back to the chapter heading to remember who’s telling the story since their voices were so similar. Waste of time? Yeah. Don’t bother.

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid
It was like getting two stories for the price of one. A light, fun beach read. This story told the story of Hannah and how one simple choice she makes one night leads her down two very different paths. I enjoyed both versions and liked both Ethan and Henry for Hannah. I also loved the strong best friend relationship depicted between Hannah and Gabby. My one complaint is that it was slow in the beginning for me. But pick it up for a breezy enjoyable read.

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
This one kept my attention the whole time. I really thought Nina was crazy. Once it switched from Millie’s POV to Nina’s, I was like, do I really want to hear what’s going on in Nina’s head? The twist that came about halfway through, I should’ve seen coming, but alas I didn’t. And it had yet another twist at the very end. Very nice. My only complaint is that the romance between Millie and Andrew seemed a little forced. Other than that, very compelling read. Highly recommend. Suspenseful? Yes. Crazy? Yes. In a good way. If you like thrillers, this is the one for you.

If He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin
This was a slow burn of a read for me. The writing throughout was nothing spectacular in my opinion. However, I really felt for Finny. I felt everything he felt for Autumn. Something the author did well was transport the reader back to high school and the trivialness of it all. And did we all really spend our high school careers in a perpetual haze of social confusion and misunderstandings?
It had such an emotional ending and an ending I didn’t like. It made me angry. So angry in fact, I had to rant to my husband about it for like a half hour after I finished reading the book. Apparently the author plans on a book 2 told from Finny’s POV and I’ll pass, especially since I already know how it ends and don’t want to spend my afternoon angry again. I’m no glutton for punishment. Would I recommend it? Hard to say on this one. If you hate the ending of a book, would you still recommend it? Feeling something after you consume art, even anger, isn’t nothing. So? Yes, read it and let me know your thoughts. 😉
As always, happy reading!

Enjoyed reading a book you had read. Worth the read for sure.
